4 Helpful Tips for Washing Your Car This Spring

Tips for Cleaning Your Car

Warmer spring weather in Paducah means it’s a great time to break out your bucket and shammy and polish up your ride. These tips for washing your car this spring will make sure that you’re sparkling when all is sud and done.

Cleaners

It’s a good idea to use products made specifically for washing cars when you get down to it. Cleaning products made for your kitchen or bathroom can damage your car’s paint or protective wax coating. Use a natural sponge or a mitt made of lamb’s wool to protect the surface.

Getting the Gunk Off

While you want to use a gentle cleaner on your car overall, you will need something stronger to remove the deposits you’ve picked up over the winter. A bug and tar remover will get rid of grease, rubber marks, and road tar easily. Use a soft cloth to protect your sponge.

Wheels and Tires

You should also use a different sponge or cloth to clean the wheels and tires. They pick up all kinds of debris from the road, such as small bits of gravel, which can scratch paint. You can use a product formulated for cleaning your type of wheels, but a mild soap will work, too. Check the label on the product or in your car’s owner’s manual for information.

Rinse Well

Rinse the car thoroughly before you begin to wash it and again when you are finished. Rinse the soap off from top to bottom, and then dry the vehicle with a chamois or some old, soft towels.
